Jayant Umranikar city police commissioner has been transferred to Mumbai as Additional Directional General of Police by the State Home Department. Nagpur police commissioner Dr Satyapal Singh will be the new police commissioner of Pune.
Dr Satyapal Singh, an IPS officer of the 1973 batch. Umranikar had been the state CID chief. In March 2007, he had taken over charge of the Pune police. He is known as a master of language and a man of intelligence. Umranikar has worked abroad over 12 years in different countries.
He founded a helpline for a medico-legal ambulance and senior citizens scheme in pune. He also gave that power to the local police stations for filing ‘L-temps’ on traffic violators and started electronic notice system for traffic violators. Umranikar also tried to make stronger the discovery branch and worked for welfare of constables.
On Wednesday, the home department also transferred 5 top officials. Additional Director General of Police N. Dixit will replace Satypal Singh as Nagpur Police Commissioner. S. M. Sayyad Special Inspector General of Police (Spl. IGP) has been transferred to the woman assistance division in Mumbai and Dalveer Bharati Special Inspector General of Police will take over charges for Amravati police range.

Sir, I wish to congratulate the new Police Commissioner, Mr. Satyapal Singh because, we clearly see a difference - a better managed and supervised traffic, a strong, determined action against criminals (including “encounters”),and somehow I do sincerely feel that Police Chiefs such as Mr. Satyapal Singh can and will really do much good for Pune. Yes, Pune is fortunate to have such efficient and committed Police officers, who inspire confidence and faith in the Police department. I must also say that Mr. Satyapal Singh`s overall personality itself embodies an uncompromising integrity, sincerity and determination of purpose. I am sure that all officers working in the Pune Police Commissionerate will be inspired by the new Police chief.
I sincerely send my heartiest good wishes to the CP and the entire Pune Police.
