July 4th, 2009 ~ 3 Comments

New Buses in PMPMLThere will be about 175 new buses in the PMPML, and the state government has sanctioned Rs 40.5 crore for this project under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Mission (JNNURM).

As per the decision taken by the government on July 1, 2009, the amount will be released as a first installment to add buses in Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal’s fleet.

The funds have been released after a meeting held last week between Pune MP Suresh Kalmadi and state chief minister Ashok Chavan to discuss various issues regarding Pune.

As per the announcement of the Union Ministry of Urban Development the funds were released in January this year and the purchase of buses will be added to the JNNURM funding schemes. The decision was taken to improve the transport service in 56 mission cities of JNNURM.

Pune is one of the first cities receiving the sanction for the proposal to obtain buses. Rs 40.5 crore will be used for first batch to buy 175 buses and there will be a total 650 buses that have been sanctioned.

State government is going to take review for every three months and will judge the improvement in the bus procurement process and the use of funds.

There is accute shortage of bus services during peak hours. Either shortage of buses or buses are not running as per schedule.

The action from PMPML are being taken but very slow.

Its good to note that new buses will be added, which should surely ease the problems faced by general public. But by increasing bus strength alone will not solve the problems faced by the daily commuters. What PMPML should do is invest and arrange some sort of lectures, programs for its staff, which will inculcate a sense of responsibilities in the drivers and conductors. There have been times when buses with seats empty just speeds of without stopping at the bus stop, leaving passengers helpless. Rude and arrogant behavior by the staff is also an every day affair, its true that PMPL staff are working under stress but in todays scenario everyone is, and a little bit of mind control, body language will help. Reckless driving is also a prime problem, and as high efficiency buses are added a control on ones speed and show off skills is necessary, control of speed also help in prolonging the wear and tear of other mechanical parts of the vehicle, pot holes also take a heavy toll on the speeding vehicle increasing maintenance cost. Time table of buses should be viewed regularly, necessary changes regarding bus frequency should coincide as per the demands of public, more during office and school hours, lesser during other times. Of course PMPL has been doing a good job, and we all know all There is a black sheep in every flock, So keep up the good work and keep on asking for suggestions from passengers
