The RTA (Regional Transport Authority) has decided to refresh it’s a prepaid system auto rickshaw services in Swargate, Pune Station and Shivajinagar ST stands. On Laxmi road, the RTA had also decided to have rickshaw stands at most chowks.
On Thursday, the Pune internal transport committee announced the decision at a meeting. Deputy Commissioner of police (transport) Manoj Patil was presided over the meeting and various transport organizations representatives were present at the meeting.
Member of the RTA Baba Shinde said -
The prepaid booth service will be managed by ex-servicemen organizations and NGOs and it will be monitored by the traffic police. Tenders for this have been called. A service charge of Rs 1 for every auto rickshaw will be given to the managing organization. In the first phase of the revival, the service will be implemented at Shivajinagar, Swargate and Pune Station.
He stating that now there were barely any prepaid services. Shinde said that the decision to refresh the service has been taken considering its advantages to commuters.
Shinde said that a lot of places used to have prepaid services. But, they failed because of largely mismanagement of the service. He added that the traffic police have been monitored at present with organizations managing the services and we hope things will improve.
On Laxmi road, the RTA has also decided on places for rickshaw stands and auto rickshaws can stop. On the road, this will decrease the private traffic. The road has been overloaded with private vehicles of late. Every chowk will have three-five stands.
In the city, rickshaw drivers would soon undergo consciousness sessions, Shinde said. The traffic police and the RTO will be conducted of the sessions. The driver has been started considering the increasing complaints number against rickshaw drivers.
