The city’s minimum temperature has begun increasing again still as the year end provide a revived winter some hope.

A gradual increase in minimum temperature is probable in next 48-hours. The city recorded 8.6 degrees minimum temperature on December 31 and the lowest as the season start. The temperature of evening is floating above 9 degrees celsius but as last duo of days. (Thursday recorded 9.4 degrees as on Friday recorded 10.2 degrees).

Director (Weather Forecasting) Medha Khole from IMD (India Meteorological Department) said –

The wind direction has changed so a slight increase has been witnessed in the minimum temperature. The northerly winds have become south-easterly.

Likely, the mousier incursion is to rise in the next duo of days, Khole pointed out. This will result in a rise in least temperature in city as well as around. Khole said –

Though the temperature is likely to rise it will not be a drastic changes just a gradual rise.

Conversely, because of radiation cooling and clear skies many areas of the city witnessed foggy condition and especially in morning time. Likely in this situation is no major change in next duo of days, IMD director Khole said.

Recently, city based pakhwaj player Ganesh Papal (23) had earned special credit at the all India music competition. The AIR (All India Radio) organized the competition.

On January 10, Consul general of the Netherlands Hans Ramaker will be presented the special award to Papal at the National Centre of Performing Arts at Mumbai.

He says that I began learning pakhwaj at the 7-year-old from Dattatray Chorge and afterward trained under Tukaramji Bhumkar. Now, Papal (23) is learning tabla. He auditioned in the Pune centre for the award and was select with participants from across the country.

He says –

I did not expect the award simply because pakhwaj is an instrument that has some great exponents in North India and I thought that one of them would get the award. But even if it was a surprise it was a good one and I feel honored.

Papal has accompanied famous musicians like Pt Atulkumar Upadhye and Pt Arvind Gajendragadkar in shows. Now, Papal is learning tabla from Pandit Ramdas Palsule. He says that I am also completing my M.A. in tabla outwardly and simultaneously I also teach at a city school.

Papal dedicates his success credit to his father Bhivada Papal. He concludes –

I draw all my inspiration from him since it was he who introduced me to the world of music. It was his wish that I learn the pakhwaj as it is a part of the Warkari culture.

The municipal corporation has been found in current survey most of the 481 children labourers in Pimpri-Chinchwad area. The municipal body had decided to give education and other advantages of government schemes to these children.

On Monday, worker welfare officer and assistant commissioner Subhash Machare from PCMC (Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation) told TOI that the AIILSG (All India Institute of Local Self-Government) was managed the survey for the municipal corporation. The PCMC will try to provide education to the children under the SSAUG (Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan of the Union government).

Machare said –

For getting information about child labourers, the PCMC had issued a public notice to various organisations, offices and other establishments. It has also put a condition in the contracts it signs with contractors that they should provide education to child labourers employed in their organisations as per the Child Labour Prevention and Control Act.

The AIILSG managed the survey in processing and industrial units. It also collected information about school dropouts and their families details.

Regional director S.G. Chavan from AIILSG said –

The survey was conducted at two levels. As many as 270 anganwadi workers conducted the survey in slums and other parts of the township. Around 30 MSW students conducted the survey in industries. It took six months to complete the survey, while another two months were needed to computerise the data and analyse it.

As many as 481 children labourers live in slums. In hotels, children work and stay in hotels or in near areas. Chavan said that the participation of anganwadi workers helped as they recognized the area well and people didn’t hide details form them.
